Canada’s military wants its next unmanned aircraft system to be cap­able of dropping search-and-rescue sup­plies in the Arctic and in other areas as it looks to expand UAS roles into activities formerly conducted by manned platforms. Canada plans to spend between CAN $1 billion (US $998 million) and $1.5 billion on a new fleet of UAS. Boeing’s Phantom Eye Upgraded to Experimental Status by US Air Force

Boeing’s Phantom Eye was promoted to experimental status by the U.S. Air Force 412th Operations Group based on the recommendation of officials at NASA’s Dryden Flight Research Center. The liquid hydrogen-fuelled, high altitude long endurance (HALE) unmanned aircraft system (UAS) is a prodigy of sorts, having earned experimental status after completing just six successful test flights.
