Obama to Issue Executive Order on UAS Privacy
President Barack Obama plans to issue an executive order to develop privacy guidelines for commercial UAS operating in U.S. airspace, according to POLITICO. The order would put the National Telecommunications and Information Administration, an arm of the Commerce Department, in charge of developing the guidelines. NTIA would bring together companies and consumer groups to hammer out a series of voluntary best practices for unmanned aerial vehicles.
Attitude Gyro Failure Caused QF-4E Crash
A failure of the pitch and roll attitude gyro led to a QF-4E Phantom II crash at the White Sands National Monument, approximately five miles southwest of Holloman Air Force Base, N.M., Feb. 7, 2014, according to an Air Combat Command accident investigation report just released.

New Russian UAS for Background Radiation Monitoring
UAV systems, LLC. has developed background radiation monitoring system for Russian meteorology and ecological monitoring corporation Rosgidromet. The base of the system is serially produced scintillational wide-range intellectual x-ray and gamma emission detection module and UAV Supercam S-350 by UAV systems, LLC. Both devices were modified during development.
F/A-18 Demo at Farnborough Airshow 2014
The McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing) F/A-18 Hornet is a twin-engine supersonic, all-weather carrier-capable multirole combat jet, designed as both a fighter and attack aircraft (F/A designation for Fighter/Attack). Designed by McDonnell Douglas and Northrop, the F/A-18 was derived from the latter’s YF-17 in the 1970s for use by the United States Navy and Marine Corps. The Hornet is also used by the air forces of several other nations. The U.S. Navy’s Flight Demonstration Squadron, the Blue Angels, has used the Hornet since 1986. Continue reading
