Portland City Council made the first step last week toward restricting aerial drone delivery services, a system that Amazon has begun rolling out in cities across the country. Councilors voted overwhelmingly to “consider” a moratorium on building facilities that support delivery drones.
A new defence technology company being launched by former Ukrainian Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov will produce interceptor unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) designed to target jet-powered Russian UAVs, with Palantir Technologies as its first investor. In a statement, Fedorov said Ukraine would be the company’s priority.
Honeywell Aerospace announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, EMS Defense Technologies, was selected as an awardee under the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems (C-UAS) Indefinite-Delivery, Indefinite-Quantity (IDIQ) program. Continue reading

Raytheon, an RTX business, was awarded $729 million to deliver critical components of the LIDS counter-drone system to the U.S. Army, Qatar and Jordan. LIDS – or the Low, slow, small, unmanned aircraft Integrated Defeat System – incorporates Raytheon’s Ku-band Radio Frequency Sensor (KuRFS) and the Coyote effector.
