Sikorsky Flight-Tests Scalable ‘Rotor Blown Wing’ UAS For DARPA Project

Sikorsky, a Lockheed Martin company, is conducting flight tests to mature the control laws and aerodynamics of a novel vertical takeoff and landing uncrewed aerial system (VTOL / UAS). The flight tests are intended to prove the efficiency and scalability of a twin proprotor ‘rotor blown wing’ configuration that sits on its tail to take-off and land like a helicopter, and transitions easily to horizontal forward flight for long-endurance missions, such as intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and targeting. Amazon Prime Air Drones Get FAA BVLOS Approval to Expand Deliveries in Texas

The approval will allow Prime Air to further expand drone deliveries and lays the foundation to safely scale operations to more locations in the U.S. We’re excited to share that the FAA has given Prime Air additional permissions that allow us to operate our drones beyond visual line of sight, enabling us to now serve more customers via drone and effectively expand and scale our drone delivery operations. GA-ASI Awarded AI Smart Sensor Contract

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. was awarded a $94,808,020 cost-plus-fixed-fee contract for research, development, test, and evaluation of Autonomy and Artificial Intelligence for the Smart Sensor Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) prototype. The work was awarded by the Army Contracting Command on April 30, 2024, with an estimated completion date of March 31, 2026. Continue reading
