Vancouver Reviews Film Industry UAS Use After Crash

A crash in downtown Vancouver last month has triggered a review by the city on the use of unmanned aerial vehicles in the film industry. The unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) was being used to shoot a commercial near the intersection of Hastings and Hornby streets when it hit a building and crashed to the ground. No one was injured and Transport Canada says no one will be charged. The California UAS Summit took place in San Diego on Tuesday, June 10. California is a Center of Excellence for the development, manufacturing, and testing of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS). From industry leaders General Atomics, Kratos Defense Solutions, and Northrop Grumman’s Center for Unmanned Systems headquartered in San Diego, as well as The Boeing Company, and AeroVironment in Los Angeles County, major UAS has a history in California.

San Francisco Startup Wants to Deliver Medecine by UAS

QuiQuiLogoA San Francisco start-up is developing a UAS delivery service that promises to drug store items hovering outside of addresses in the Mission District in under 15 minutes. QuiQui hopes to start deliveries in July, taking advantage of a recent court decision that struck down Federal Aviation Administration guidelines barring UAS for commercial use.
