UAV to Scan the Amazon Rainforest for Hidden Civilizations

2-imageA new international project led by the University of Exeter will investigate the Amazon’s sustainable future by studying the way that ancient societies used and transformed the environment. The study is pioneering a remote sensing data device that will be attached to an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) to scan beneath the canopy of the forest.

U.S. Export Policy for Military Unmanned Aerial Systems

The U.S.State Department has approved its first policy for selling armed drones to allies. It has just published new guidelines that set out procedures for both commercial and military drone exports, which the department said it will assess on a “case-by-case basis,” including “armed systems.” It also seeks to impose restrictions on purchasers concerning how the unmanned systems can be used, as well as provisions for the U.S. to monitor compliance. Belarusia to Produce Electric Motors for UAVs

Belarusian scientists are planning to launch the manufacture of electric engines for compact unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in 2015, Yuri Yatsyna, head of the R&D center BAK and Technologies of the Physics Technology Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, said at the press conference “Innovative technologies: unmanned aircraft complexes” on 10 February.
