Aerial Survey of California Gold Rush Town
Monarch, Inc completed the first stage of a project this week to aerially survey and 3D map the 19th-century ghost mining town of Bodie, California. Part of the California State Parks system, Bodie is an original California Gold Rush town. In its heyday during the 1880s, Bodie was a vibrant and volatile gem of the Wild West, and is now kept in a state of ‘arrested decay’.

US Navy Tests Puma on Guided-Missile Destroyer
The guided-missile destroyer USS Gonzalez (DDG 66) conducted testing of an unmanned aircraft system during a Composite Unit Training Exercise (COMPTUEX). RQ-20A Puma (Block II) is the second iteration of the all-environment unmanned aircraft models and is used in situations with a greater need for maneuverability, such as maritime interdiction and counter-piracy operations.

US Air Force Delays Decision on Airmen Flying RPAS
The U.S. Air Force has delayed until possibly next year a decision on whether to let enlisted airmen fly RPAS. A decision on the matter was expected in November, but will probably be pushed back until January, officials said last week at the Air and Space Conference near Washington, D.C. No explanation was immediately available.
New Zealand Drone Takes Out Powerlines
A Whangarei drone operator is being investigated by the New Zealand Civil Aviation Authority after his machine hit powerlines, causing a power cut to about 200 properties and the loss of at least 1000 man-hours of productivity for the businesses affected. Continue reading
