The UK’s Kelvin Hughes is launching a drone detection and tracking system based on its SharpEye X-Band radar receiver technology. The new system, called SMS-D, provides continuously updated bearing, distance, altitude and velocity data. It identifies targets automatically through its video tracking system, ensuring that any remedial or defensive action can be quickly implemented. VStar’s Successful Flight Test of MA-C Signal Intelligence Sensor

VStar Systems Inc., a privately held aerospace and defence systems company, announced the successful flight test of its modular Signal Intelligence Sensor, MA-C/lite, aboard the Martin UAV V-Bat aircraft. USAF Pays $15.6 Million for Anti-Drone Systems

The US Air Force awarded a $15.6 million contract to ELTA North America Inc., to deliver 21 “counter-unmanned aerial systems,” according to a Feb. 21 Pentagon announcement. The devices, which the announcement also calls “Man Portable Aerial Defense System kits,” will be produced in Israel and delivered to the continental US for training by the end of July. The RQ-170 Sentinel remains cloaked in mystery a decade after it was first photographed and nearly six years after the Skunk Works-built flying-wing drone spied on Osama Bin Laden’s compound and later fell into the hands of the Iranian government. In recent years, Sentinels have been photographed and filmed just a handful of times flying in and out of Creech AFB, the USAF’s master unmanned aircraft base located north of Las Vegas.
