Revolution Aerospace (RevAero) has announced the expansion of its Uncrewed Aerial Vehicle (UAV) based cargo delivery capability, with the recent procurement of the Anavia HT-100; lifting payloads over 55 kg and with over 4 hours of endurance. Swedish researchers funded by the University of Gävle have just published a paper in which they conduct systems analyses to assess the environmental, economic, and delivery time impact of large drones for delivery scenarios to pick-up centers between mid-size cities predominantly in rural areas, and deliveries within city limits compared with electric and diesel trucks. The New York City Police Department is testing new drones that are designed to transmit audio messages to the public, such as announcements warning of dangerous weather or nearby emergencies. On Sunday, NYC’s emergency notification system announced on Twitter that the NYPD would be “conducting a test of remote-piloted public messaging capabilities” that day, following several weeks of heavy rain and rare flash flood warnings impacting the city.
In 2023 Veolia Water updated its drone fleet with the addition of a new Elios, with the aim of reducing inspection costs and inspection time, but also improving the safety of its workers. RigiTech’s Eiger drone has begun a 4-month pilot project in Uruguay, pioneering the first BVLOS operation in Latin America. Spanish-Uruguayan company CIELUM, in coordination with engineer Franco Simini from the biomedical engineering nucleus of the Faculty of Engineering (UDELAR) and Tacuarembó Hospital (ASSE), begun flying BVLOS (Beyond-Visual-Line-of-Sight) deliveries to extend the hospital’s medical logistics throughout the Tacuarembó department in Uruguay.
