Ten years after Global Hawk’s first non-stop international flight from Edwards Air Force Base in California to RAAF Edinburgh near Adelaide, Northrop Grumman will feature a full-scale, reconfigurable Global Hawk in the outside display area at the Australian International Air Show which opens today at Avalon near Geelong, Victoria.

IDEX closed yesterday, with the organisers publishing final figures showing a record attendance with more than 60,000 visitors, 1,060 exhibiting companies from 53 countries and 150 official delegations participating in a total event space of 124,000 m².

IDEX Award Winners
The IDEX 2011 Gala Dinner and Awards ceremony was held on Monday night at the Abu Dhabi Armed Forces Officers’ Club in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, National Security Advisor and Vice Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council.
CAE Staff Demonstrate UAS Mission Training Solutions at Aero India
CAE recently demonstrated its UAS mission training solutions at the biennial Aero India show in Bangalore. India’s Army, Navy and Air Force are all expected to significantly increase their use of unmanned aerial systems, and the three services are currently conducting trials to evaluate potential UAS training systems.
The 10th edition of IDEX opened its doors to VIP visitors on Sunday 20th and today, Monday, to all visitors. The event, which is being held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC), Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates runs until Thursday 24th February. IDEX is the largest defence and security event in the Middle East and North African region, and this year 900 companies, including several UAS manufacturers and local agents, are exhibiting.
India’s aerospace hub, Bangalore is preparing for South Asia’s largest air show, AeroIndia 2011, which opens today, Wednesday, at the Yelahanka air base on the city’s outskirts. The eighth edition is the largest ever with about 675 exhibitors, including 380 from 29 countries and 295 domestic firms, participating in the five-day trade expo. There is a 70 percent increase in gross exhibition area to 75,000 square metres from 44,000 square metres in 2009 and total of 70,000 business delegates from 70 countries and 275,000 general visitors are expected.
