Nokia and Sendai City Test Wireless Connected Drones for Tsunami Alerts

Sendai City and Nokia successfully conducted a test flight of a Nokia drone on a private LTE network provided by Nokia Digital Automation Cloud. They tested the potential use of drones during a tsunami or other disasters to help in prevention and mitigation efforts. Continue reading

GA-ASI to Conduct Series of Capability Demonstrations in Europe

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. has announced that it is working with the Hellenic Air Force (HAF) in Greece to conduct a series of demonstration flights for European countries in December. Flights will base out of the HAF’s site in Larissa and use a GA-ASI MQ-9 Guardian RPA to showcase maritime surveillance capabilities, as well as a GA-ASI-developed Detect and Avoid (DAA) system that enables RPA to fly safely in civil airspace alongside manned aircraft. FAA Grants BVLOS Approval for First Segment of New York’s 50-Mile Drone Corridor

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo has announced that the New York Unmanned Aircraft System Test Site at Griffiss International Airport in Rome has received approval from the Federal Aviation Administration to fly unmanned aircraft beyond visual line of sight within first segment of New York’s 50-Mile Unmanned Aircraft System Corridor being built by Oneida County, NUAIR and New York State. HAPSMobile Successfully Completes Second HAWK30 Solar HAPS Test Flight

HAPSMobile Inc., a subsidiary of SoftBank Corp. and minority-owned by AeroVironment, Inc.  announced the second successful test flight of the HAWK30 solar-powered high-altitude platform system (HAPS) that took place on October 23, 2019 (PT) at the NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center in California.
