France Orders an Additional 5,000 ISR Drones from Dassault-Backed Startup Harmattan AI

Harmattan AI, a next-generation defence prime developing autonomous defence systems, has secured a renewed Program of Record from the French Ministry of the Armed Forces for Sonora, its short-range ISR system. This contract renewal demonstrates performance and operator satisfaction delivered by Harmattan AI’s defence systems.

The company signed its first Program of Record with France’s DGA in June 2025 and delivered 1,000 units of the Sonora defence system within six months. Following their successful deployment during Orion exercise 2026, France’s DGA renewed its confidence in Harmattan AI and increased its procurement volume fivefold, ordering an additional 5,000 units to support future autonomous unmanned operations across military units.

“Harmattan AI is becoming a long-term partner of the nations that entrust us with critical defence capabilities, and we are very proud to build that relationship of trust”,

said Mouad M’Ghari, CEO and Co-Founder of Harmattan AI.

“Earning France’s DGA renewed trust is a great achievement for Harmattan AI. The quality standards applied by France’s Directorate General of Armament are among the most demanding in the world and we succeeded in meeting them with a system that entered service only one year after its initial conception. This demonstrates Harmattan AI’s ability to meet the needs of allied nations: developing attritable, scalable and autonomous defence systems at speed, while remaining agile and responsive to the needs of real-world operators. In a world where warfare is changing rapidly, Harmattan AI is committed to applying its technological excellence to adapt even faster.”

To support the accelerating demand for autonomous systems, Harmattan AI has established a manufacturing capacity in the Paris region. With a production capacity of 10,000 units per month, the facility positions Harmattan AI as the leading producer of unmanned defence systems in Western Europe, reflecting the company’s belief that industrial readiness is a strategic advantage.

By combining vertically-integrated production with rapid manufacturing capabilities, Harmattan AI is able to field critical defense systems at the speed required by modern warfare.
