Algeria Orders China’s CH-5 Combat Drones

Sources have confirmed the order of half a dozen CH-5 Rainbow combat drones from CASC (China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation). The aircraft will join the CH-3 and 4 already in service.

The order will be fully delivered in 2022 from March.

This drone, larger and heavier than the CH-4, displays quite similar performance to the American MQ 9 Predator. It can fly 60 hours in a row or 10,000 km without landing while carrying 1 ton of payload (up to 16 anti-tank missiles of the AR-1 and 2 or HJ-12 type. All at an altitude of 9 km.

One of the advantages of the CH-5 is to work in tandem with the CH-4 and CH-3 on attack or intelligence gathering missions.

Algeria has also ordered the WingLoong 2, which will bring the number of air force attack drones to around sixty by the end of 2022.
