Turkey Tests World’s First Laser-Equipped Drone

The world’s first Turkish-made Eren laser-powered drone has successfully fired at distances of 500, 300 and 100 meters. Eren will be transferred to the Turkish Armed Forces inventory after completing all test phases.

The Eren drone was developed by the defense companies TÜBİTAK and ASİSGUARD under the coordination of the forensic department of the General Directorate of Security and is capable of neutralizing explosive elements at a distance using laser weapons. The name of the development was given by the Minister of Internal Affairs Suleiman Soylu. Eren’s maximum flight altitude is 3,000 meters.

The Eren drone was first presented by the Defense Industry Directorate under the Turkish Presidential Administration as part of the “Public Support and Incentive Program Awareness Days” at the ATO Congresium Exhibition Center and has attracted a lot of attention.

Assistant Commissioner Aykut Eroglu told Anadolu agency that the Eren drone is designed to destroy explosive devices with laser weapons. Laser weapons are capable of destroying bombs and ammunition from a certain distance, Eroglu said. During testing, Eren hits a steel plate.

“Successful shots were fired from a distance of 500, 300 and 100 meters. Eren will help destroy the explosive devices without involving sappers, ”he said.

Eroglu said that the drone attracted a lot of attention of young people during the presentation, they received information about the mechanism of work of Eren.
