Ex-Boeing 777 Captain Keith Skilling has had a long and varied career in aviation, starting with a stint in the Royal New Zealand Air Force when he left school in 1968. His father had been a Lancaster pilot with the RAF during the Second World War.
During his time in the RNZAF Keith flew Harvards, Dakotas, Hercules and Bristol Freighters, and he eventually rose to Command No 1 Sqd RNZAF when they were flying the Hawker Siddley Andover.
In 1979, Keith became one of the founding members of the New Zealand Warbirds Association. He soon became the chief flying instructor for the Assn and one of the main test pilots. He also became a member of the (New Zealand) famed ‘Roaring Forties’ – a Noth Armerican T-6 Harvard formation display team.
Between 1999 and 2004, Keith was a member of the world renown Breitling Fighters Team in the UK, where he flew classic warbird aircraft, including the Corsair and Spitfire in more than 700 displays in thirteen different countries to an audience of millions.
