Russia to Buy UAS from the Emirates

The Russian Ministry of defence plans to buy two United Arab Emirates UAS, said a source within the arms industry. “It will purchase at least two United 40, version Block 5 aircraft, designed by ADCOM Systems ‘,” said the spokesman.

According to the information supplied by the Abu Dhabi-based company, the United 40 (version Block 5) has an S-shaped fuselage  equipped with wings in tandem. It is equipped with two propeller engines installed on pylons under the front wings. The aircraft can reach up to 7,000 m in altitude, with an autonomy of 120 hours. It is equipped with a radar and an optoelectronic monitoring system. The four-point suspension located under the rear wings enable air-surface Yabhon-Namrod unmanned missiles designed by ADCOM also too be mounted.

A Russian expert on unmanned aircraft, Denis Fedoutinov, said that the Russia was the first country in the world to order the United 40. “Until now, this system has not been delivered to any customer, neither foreign nor from the Emirates. In its current version, the aircraft was presented for the first time at the IDEX exhibition in February 2013 in Abu Dhabi. The first flight test was carried out in March,” said the expert.

According to the Russian Centre of analysis of global trade of weapons, under the terms of a contract signed in April 2009 between Israel and the Russia, Israel has delivered two Bird Eye-400 UAS (for an amount of $ 4 million), eight I-View Mk150 UAS (for $ 37 million) and two Searcher Mk.2 UAS ($12 million).

In March 2013, the Russian public conglomerate Oboronprom contracted with the Israeli group IAI’s $ 400 million providing for the establishment in Russia of a Bird Eye and Searcher UAS assembly plant.
