Maj Mirmirani, Dean of Embry-Riddle’s College of Engineering, said that the College is “contemplating” adding a master’s degree in autonomous and unmanned systems engineering, which could start in 2013.
At the start of the fall semester in August, the university launched a bachelor’s degree in Unmanned Aircraft Systems Science in the College of Aviation. That degree focuses on the operations aspect of the systems preparing students for such roles as a pilot, observer, sensor operator, or operations administrator.
The proposed unmanned systems engineering degree would focus more on the engineering and design of such systems.
“There is a huge demand. That really is a growing industry,” Mirmirani said about unmanned systems. “We’re just seeing the tip of the iceberg.”
