Eurocontrol 5-rpas-workshop-imgAs interest in Unmanned Aerial Vehicles rises rapidly in Europe, Mike Lissone, RPAS ATM integration programme manager for Eurocontrol, noted that attendees and presenters at the workshop looked to focus on technical and regulatory issues, such as sense and avoid, that need to be tackled just as rapidly. Lissone told Avionics Magazine that he likes to draw attention to some of the elements of future RPAS integration that will “come around the corner to haunt us.”

Hypersonic X-51 WaveRider Successor Ready by 2023

x51-waverider-600x400Scientists with the US Air Force Research Laboratory and the Pentagon’s research arm are working to build a new hypersonic air vehicle that can travel at speeds up to Mach 5 while carrying guidance systems and other materials. Air Force Chief Scientist Mica Endsley said the service wants to build upon the successful hypersonic test flight of the X-51 Waverider 60,000 feet above the Pacific Ocean in May of 2013.
