For the first time in history, an unmanned surface drone (USV) has destroyed another USV in combat. The Ukrainian Navy Sargan-3000 USV, operating on intelligence from the Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR), interdicted a Russian attack USV in the Black Sea. The Russian naval drone was sunk.
Ukraine’s uncrewed surface vessels (USVs) are dominating naval combat in the Black Sea. Yet they have, until now, been particularly vulnerable to aircraft. So Russian defenses have emphasized using helicopters and fighter jets to stop them. Now a version armed with two repurposed air-air missiles could change the tide again. Continue reading
