Work is on schedule to open the Army’s new $15 million Gray Eagle UAS Training Centre at Fort Huachuca within a year. The installation is near Sierra Vista in South East Arizona, 15 miles from the Mexico border. The announcement was made last week by Brigadier General Gregg Potter, who commands the Intelligence Centre of Excellence and Fort Huachuca.

CAE Puts ‘Mission’ into UAS Training at Aero India
CAE recently demonstrated its UAS mission training solutions at the biennial Aero India show in Bangalore. India’s Army, Navy and Air Force are all expected to significantly increase their use of unmanned aerial systems, and the three services are currently conducting trials to evaluate potential UAS training systems.
UND Signs Lease on Grand Forks Air Base
The University of North Dakota and representatives from the Grand Forks Air Force Base signed a historic lease agreement on Saturday, Feb. 12, providing the University’s UAS programme a new home on base for research, training and education. A signing ceremony took place inside the base facility, part of which — about 5,000 square feet — will house UND’s Center for UAS Research, Education & Training.
US Senators Push for 10 UAS Test Sites
U.S. Senators Charles Schumer (New York) and Ron Wyden(Oregon) plan to submit an amendment on UAS to the FAA reauthorization bill, a two-year $35 billion legislative package. The amendment would establish 10 test sites in the National Airspace System for UAS. As of now, the bill proposes establishing four sites.
L-3 Communications Provides Predator Simulators to University of North Dakota
The University of North Dakota has concluded an agreement with L-3 Communications to provide Predator Mission Aircrew Training System units for its training facility at Grand Forks Air Force Base. The total cost of the training facility is about $2 million, of which $1.6 million will go into furnishings and equipment, including the simulators. Most of the funding came from the state Department of Commerce
