Programming UAS to Fly Like Birds

Jack Langelaan’s lab in the basement of Hammond Building is a model airplane builder’s dream. In one room, graduate students Nathan Depenbusch and John Bird test algorithms on commercial flight simulators: Pilot’s eye views of checkered green landscapes roll past on banked computer screens. Oklahoma State University UAS Programme in the Eye of the Storm


Oklahoma State University is flying away from the competition when it comes to unmanned aircraft systems. After the Federal Aviation Administration recently chose six test sites across the United States to begin research into UAS, some questioned why Oklahoma was not on the test site list. Dr. Jamey Jacob, a professor of aerospace engineering at OSU, said he was not surprised by the decision. Continue reading

Morocco Now Has French Harfangs

Harfang-sharkmouthInternational media sources have reported recently that Royal Moroccan Air Force (RMAF) has acquired the three ‘Harfang’ unmanned aircraft systems retired by the French Air Force after several years of service in Afghanistan. The Harfang, which is based on the Israeli IAI/Malat Heron-I system and deployed with the ‘Armee de’Lair’ in 2008, was delivered by EADS (Now Airbus Defense & Space), under the Eagle I cooperative development with Israel Aerospace Industries.
