Canada’s military wants its next unmanned aircraft system to be cap­able of dropping search-and-rescue sup­plies in the Arctic and in other areas as it looks to expand UAS roles into activities formerly conducted by manned platforms. Canada plans to spend between CAN $1 billion (US $998 million) and $1.5 billion on a new fleet of UAS. Spain Transfers Target Drone Technology to Brazil

Spain’s National Institute for Aerospace Technology has agreed on the transfer of technology to Brazil for the production of Diana target drones. The agreement was signed with Brazilian company Equipaer Ind Aeronáutica and includes the delivery of two aircraft and remote control mechanisms, a statement of the Defence Ministry’s institution said. Lockheed Martin Gets $440M FAA NAS Support Contract Extension

The FAA awarded a $440 million extension through 2017 to Lockheed Martin for continued support of the National Airspace System (NAS) Integration Support Contract (NISC).  Extending the NISC allows the FAA to have quick access to a team of high-level technical, engineering and information technology specialists where it needs to implement or integrate equipment and components related to the modernization of the U.S. air traffic management system, NextGen.   Continue reading
