NOAA Manta UAS Sniff Black Carbon in the Artic
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) will use its two small unmanned Manta aircraft to sniff for black carbon, an agent formed through the incomplete combustion of fossil fuels, biofuel, and biomass, in the Arctic.
Rockwell Collins Guidance and Navigation Systems Exceed 1 Million Hours Flying UAS
Rockwell Collins’ Athena family of flight control and navigation systems exceeded 1 million flight hours on several UAS performing surveillance operations primarily in the Middle East. This fact emerged out of the company’s quarterly report, which also announced a sales increase of $81 million, or 7%, to $1.223 billion for its second quarter ended March 31, 2011 compared to sales of $1.142 billion for the same period a year ago.

Raytheon Tests Small Tactical Munition for UAS
Raytheon has tested a new warhead for its Small Tactical Munition, a new weapon specifically designed to be employed from UAS. STM is a 13-pound guided munition that is approximately 2 feet long, making it the smallest air-launched weapon in the Raytheon portfolio.
