AirMap, an airspace management platform for drones, has announced a $26 million Series B funding round led by Microsoft Ventures, with additional participation from Airbus Ventures, Qualcomm Ventures (the investment arm of Qualcomm Incorporated), Rakuten, Sony, Yuneec, and existing investors General Catalyst and Lux Capital. Gryphon Sensors, an offshoot of SRC Inc., plans to develop a $10.1 million monitoring system that can detect drones and other small aircraft. The first phase of the project, which is slated for completion in April 2017, will cover the airspace between Gryphon’s North Syracuse headquarters and Griffiss International Airport in Rome, Oneida County.
