More Suspicious Drones Spy on Ukrainian Military Training in Germany

The German Ministry of Defense reported that unknown and suspicious drones were flying over a training ground of the German army [Bundeswehr]. The ministry’s spokesman announced on Saturday 1 October that there had been “repeated drone overflights by several drones over Bundeswehr property and the neighboring Wildflecken military training area”.

According to the German media n-tv.de, Ukrainian armed forces are trained at this training ground on how to operate Dingo-type armoured vehicles. BulgarianMilitary.com recalls that Ukraine expects the delivery of this type of military equipment from Germany.

The Ministry of Defense said there was no danger to the population. At the same time, however, the ministry spokesman did not say the origin of the drones. Also, the MoD didn’t say who might have piloted them in the air.

It turns out that suspicious cars were parked at the entrance to two German barracks. There were also unidentified drone overflights around these two barracks. The information is from the German military counterintelligence.

Ukraine expects a delivery from Germany of new artillery cannons. Kyiv has ordered 18 155mm RCH-155 barrelled artillery systems from Berlin. The RCH-155s are manufactured by Krauss-Maffei Wegmann [KMW] and Ukraine will pay for them through the security capacity-building fund.

In addition to the RCH-155, the Ukrainian armed forces should receive more weapons from Germany in the coming weeks. Among them are one IRIS-T SLM Battery [To be delivered in December 2022], two 227mm M270 ‘MARS, four 155mm PzH 2000s, anti-tank missiles, drones, various armored vehicles, etc.

Although a purchase rather than a donation, the delivery of RCH-155 barrelled artillery systems represent the most advanced weapons system that Germany will supply to Ukraine since the start of the war. Just three months ago, the German manufacturer KMW presented its barrelled artillery at the international defense and security exhibition Eurosatory, Paris, France.
