Chinese Students UAV Flies for 80 Hours

The unmanned aerial vehicle named “Feng Ru 3-100”, made by Beijing Aeronautical and Astronautical University students, stayed in the air for 80 hours, 46 minutes and 35 seconds without interruption.

During its record flight at an altitude of 21 meters in Xunhang, located in the central Chinese province of Henan, on May 300, the UAV managed to stay in the air for 80 hours, 46 minutes and 35 seconds without any reinforcements, holding the new world record.

Developed by Chinese students, which equaled the 80 hours, 2 minutes and 52 seconds flight record of Boeing’s Orion drone, the previous world record holder, the UAV is black in color and has a wingspan of 10 meters. It provides its movement with a gasoline-powered engine and reaches a weight of 60 kilograms with a full tank. It is named after Feng Ru, who is considered the father of Chinese aviation.

The university on Sunday unveiled a world record certification from the International Aeronautical Federation, known as FAI from the federation’s French name.

The Chinese drone is black, with a wingspan of about 10 meters. It is powered by a gasoline engine and has a total weight of 60 kg after being filled with fuel. It was named after the “father of Chinese aviation” Feng Ru.

The record-breaking flight was carried out on May 21 in Xuchang, central China’s Henan Province. The fixed-wing aircraft circled at an altitude of 300 meters. No refueling was allowed during the flight.

The team that developed the record holder UAV consists of 25 students with different levels and expertise. Also, the average age of team members is under 20.
