Bundeswehr Orders Next Generation LUNA

Germany’s Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) on 11 July awarded EMT a EUR63 million (USD71.85 million) framework contract for the Luftgestützte Unbemannte Nahaufklärungsausstattung Next Generation (LUNA NG) reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV).

The contract covers the production, qualification and delivery of three operational LUNA NG systems and a training system by 2020, with an option for nine more systems. A system consists of five UAVs, two ground control stations in protected containers, maintenance and repair equipment, two launchers, and two recovery systems.

LUNA NG will replace both the current LUNA and the Kleinfluggerät für Zielortung (KZO) target acquisition UAV.
