NASA’s TCL2 UAS/UTM BVLOS Tests Successful at Reno

Carbon Autonomous Systems of Reno, NV in conjunction with their partner SmartPlanes of Skellefteå, Sweden, successfully took part in the planning, coordination and flying in the most recent TCL2 NASA / NIAS UAS/UTM exercises conducted at the Reno Stead airport UAS Test Range portion of the Nevada FAA UAS statewide test complex.

Along with multiple government, industry and academic partners, the research, development, testing and integration of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV’s) into Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) Traffic Management (UTM) was conducted for future inclusion of commercial unmanned vehicles into the US National Airspace.

NASA and NIAS led this most recent and more complex phase of the ongoing UAS/UTM testing by integrating multiple disparate custom and commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware, software and airframes solutions from a diverse and strong team of partners. The collaboration of these partners with their cutting- edge technologies under the NASA/NIAS leadership is propelling the future ubiquitous incorporation of safe and secure UAV’s into daily commercial activities across a broad spectrum of industries throughout the US national airspace.

SmartPlanes provided a robust and versatile commercial unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) the “FREYA” noted for its portability and mission flexibility. The core values of the company – Precision, Reliability and Safety are exemplified in every aspect of their airframe, as the FREYA proved worthy during this latest phase of the TCL2 NASA/NIAS UAS/UTM testing – successfully completing every sortie assigned during this latest UTM test scenario featuring multiple UAV’s flying simultaneously in adjacent airspace and beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS).

SmartPlanes’ American partner Carbon Autonomous Systems continues to participate in ongoing UAV research along with sales, service, repairs, training and flying services throughout the Americas.

Partners also participating in this recent TCL2 NASA/UTM exercise with SmartPlanes and Carbon Autonomous Systems were AT&T, Amazon Prime Air, Drone America, Delair-Tech, Reno Tahoe Airport Authority, University of Nevada Reno, Flirtey, AirMap, Gryphon Sensors, SensoFusion, FlySpan, Harris, and T-Mobile.
