Twitter Creates ‘Dronies’ at Cannes Advertising Event


Twitter is seeking to take the selfie social media phenomenon to new heights after unveiling the newest weapon in its arsenal, a camera equipped DJI Phantom which took its maiden flight at Cannes during the Lions Advertising Industry Festival.

‘Dronies’ see a camera affixed to the undercarriage of an airborne vehicle before it is sent skyward on its merry way, recording its operators merging into the wider view as it does so.

Developed by Twitter staff the technique was put through its paces by a number of celebrities with the dizzying results then posted on Vine.

First to benefit from the technique was Sir Patrick Stewart who boldly went where no selfie has been before alongside Joel Lunenfeld, Vice-President of Global Brand Strategy at Twitter.

Twitter has even gone so far as create its own selfie web site @dronie
