Iranian Students Build $15,000 UAS

Head of the Khomeini-Shahr branch of the Islamic Azad University, Khalifeh Soltani, announced on Monday that a group of students have built an unmanned aircraft which specializes in rescue and relief operations.

It has been built in a period of seven months and has cost about USD 15,000. “The aircraft is two meters long and has a wingspan of 2.8 meters with a flying range of 50 kilometers,” IRIB news service quoted him as saying. Soltani further noted that the UAS weighs 12 kilograms and can fly for two hours at the maximum speed of 170 km/h.

He said locating and reporting the geographical position of the injured people to the ground station, and taking as much as two kilograms of food and medicine to them are among the tasks of the UAS. Soltani stated that if mass produced, the UAS production cost would be reduced to around USD 11,000 per unit.
