Insitu Pacific is currently undertaking a marketing offensive to develop use of the ScanEagle for commercial purpose in the Asia Pacific region.
At a recent media briefing in Brisbane, Insitu Pacific Managing Director Andrew Duggan explaned: “The biggest challenge we face in all the countries (in Asia Pacific) is air space regulation for UAS.
“So, we are trying to break the perception (safety concern) here in Australia and then we are going to export that model on how we fly it safely in commercial air space to other countries like Malaysia, Japan and India.”
Duggan said Insitu Pacific was using a combination of technology and risk management measures to fly the ScanEagle in commercial air space.
The ScanEagle is suited for, among others, surveillance and reconnaissance, coastal patrol, border protection, law enforcement and search & rescue monitor. The aircraft has already delivered more than 30,000 surveillance and reconnaissance flight hours to help protect Australian troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.
It can be operated in challenging weather conditions, unprepared terrain and shipboard operations is easy with Insitu Pacific’s pneumatic catapult launcher and unique ShyHook recovery system.
Aircraft launch and recovery can be performed safely and autonomously on land and at sea without a net or runway.
