SELEX Galileo Launches skyISTAR, an ISTAR Architecture for UAS

SELEX Galileo has launched skyISTAR, an ISTAR architecture for Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS). skyISTAR will be open, flexible and platform/payload agnostic, making it adaptable to an unlimited number of potential user requirements. A key aspect of the system is its mission management system, which will integrate on-board sensors such as radar, defensive aids and other systems and then fuse the data together with proprietary algorithms to provide the operator with a single, seamless picture of the UAS environment.

Fabrizio Giulianini, CEO of SELEX Galileo said “In the future, UAS, especially MALE UAS, will need to be able to carry out a broader range of surveillance missions at an affordable cost while minimising ground crew workload. skyISTAR is flexible enough to meet all sorts of mission requirements while its platform and payload agnostic design means it can be adapted to the budget of the customer.” Giulianini added: “Crucially, our experience with similar manned systems such as the ATOS means we’ll able to convert the data a UAS collects into the most useful information possible for operators on the ground.”

skyISTAR builds on SELEX Galileo’s wealth of experience in all aspects of UAS and integrated system design. The company’s work on its Falco tactical UAS has resulted in an in-depth understanding of UAS mission systems, sensor integration and ground control technologies. 10 years of experience with the Airborne Tactical Observation and Surveillance (ATOS) system and work on the Eurofighter Typhoon’s Praetorian defensive aid suite has provided SELEX Galileo with the learning needed to field integrated ISTAR solutions and provide critical sensor information to crews in an easy-to-understand way
