FAA and NASA Discuss Joint Approach to Regulation

The Federal Aviation Administration and NASA are discussing a joint approach to introducing small drones into the airspace that could give the space agency a larger role in the effort. NASA’s Ames Research Center is already leading the development of an Unmanned Aerial System Traffic Management, or UTM, system that would manage low-flying drones. Drone Safe Register of CAA-Approved UAV Operators


On November 2nd 2015, Drone Safe Register was launched. This new directory was founded by Mark Boyt, a West Sussex businessman and CAA approved drone pilot. Mark wanted to create a platform for both professional CAA approved drone pilots to register themselves and their services, and for businesses and the general public to be able to quickly and easily locate them. FAA Administrator Opens UAS Registration Task Force Meeting

The Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Registration Task Force completed its first day of work. FAA Administrator Michael Huerta kicked off the Task Force with remarks that outlined the group’s objectives and expectations. The FAA briefed participants on the current statutory requirements and international obligations for aircraft registration before the group began initial discussions on a streamlined registration process and minimum requirements for UAS that need to be registered.
