Airbus Defence and Space officially announced that it has launched the Zephyr 8 programme to develop the next generation of the world-record setting Zephyr 7 system and invites potential customers and partners to undertake joint in-flight demonstrations of their payloads and applications.

Non-profit Group Sues FAA Over UAS Flying Ban
The US Federal Aviation Administration faces a second legal challenge over its ban on non-recreational flying of unmanned aircraft – and the first coming from a non-profit organization dedicated to searching for missing people. Texas-based EquuSearch filed a lawsuit in the US Court of Appeals in Washington DC, asking the court to over-turn a two-month-old FAA order prohibiting the non-profit organization from using unmanned aircraft sytems (UAS) as part of its search efforts.
Triangular UFO Spotted in Wichita
These pictures of a triangular craft were actually taken in February in Wichita, Kansas, but was just featured on KSN in Kansas this week. Amateur photographer Jeff Templin says he was out taking pictures of wildlife when he spotted a strange contrail. He snapped a few images. Continue reading

South Korea Considers Low-Altitude Radars from Israel

Dubai Customs Uses UAS for Vessel Surveillance in Dubai Creek
Dubai Customs is using UAS for surveillance of suspicious activity and to support inspection of trade vessels in Dubai Creek. A senior official told Gulf News the unmanned quad-copters were launched last month and may be deployed in similar operations in Dubai’s Jebel Ali port, the world’s biggest manmade harbour. Melbourne University UAS Detects Wind Patterns in Real Time
Melbourne researchers are developing UAS that will detect and glide on natural air currents to conserve energy – something birds have been doing for millennia. In the right conditions, the aircraft could glide between buildings and skyscrapers for hours on end, barely expending any battery power, project leader Dr Reece Clothier of RMIT University says. Injured Triathlete in Australia – UAV Operator “Not Certified”
A competitor in the Endure Batavia Triathlon in Geraldton was taken to hospital after an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) , fell from the sky hitting her on the head. The competitor, Raija Ogden was heading into her second lap of the run leg of the race on the Foreshore when the incident occurred. The remote-controlled copter struck her head and she fell to the ground.
