ICAO has notified UVS International that it would like to continue the partnership established for the organisation of the Global Air Traffic Management Forum, which included ATCA, CANSO, EUROCONTROL, IATA, FAA, Department of Defense (USA), Ministry of Transport (Germany), NATO, and UVS International, for the organisation/conduct of a regional campaign of five seminars/workshops on civil/military cooperation in all ICAO regions from 2011 to 2013.

UVS International Partners Chinese Government on $380,000 Innovation Award
UVS International has been invited to be an overseas partner of the AVIC Cup – International UAV Innovation Grand Prix which is being organised by the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) and the Chinese Society of Aeronautics & Astronautics (CSAA) at the China Aviation Museum in Beijing, in celebration of the 60th anniversary of China’s aviation industry, on Sept 23 – 25, 2011.
ICAO Circular 328 UAS Now Published
ICAO Circular 328, Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) – ISBN 978-92-9231-751-5 – has now been published by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). The purpose of this circular is to:
- Apprise States of the emerging ICAO perspective on the integration of UAS into non-segregated airspace and at aerodromes
- Consider the fundamental differences from manned aviation that such integration will involve
- encourage States to help with the development of ICAO policy on UAS by providing information on their own experiences associated with these aircraft.

NASA Research Announcement on UAS Integration into the National Airspace System
A recent amendment to the NASA Research Announcement (NRA) “Research Opportunities In Aeronautics – 2010” calls for a 5-page White Paper to be submitted by February 25, 2011 as step 1 in a two-step programme. The expected annual programme budget is $7.5M for Year 1 and up to $2M/year in Years 2-5.
EC Views UAS Petition Favourably
Yesterday, in reply to its petition, UVS International received a letter from Mr Siim Kallas, Vice-President of the European Commission, and Responsible for Transport, in which Mr Kallas indicated that he fully shared the views of UVS International. In addition, in reference to the European Commission’s High Level Group, which is being constituted “to develop a single European Roadmap dealing with the structural, institutional and regulatory measures that need to be tackled”, Mr Kallas indicated “Without wanting to pre-empt any decisions that will be taken in this regard, I am confident that the close involvement of UVS International to this work will be ensured”.
