ASTM Issues Proposed Drone Material Guide

ASTM International’s digital information in the supply chain committee (F49) has proposed a new guide to certifying materials and components of unmanned aerial systems (UAS), like drones. The guide (WK99450) will outline protocol for purchasing, authenticating and tracing drone materials.

According to ASTM member Mike Coner, CEO of Blockticity, WK99450 would aid in building consumer and manufacturer trust alike in material quality.

“As drones become increasingly important for public safety, infrastructure inspection, agriculture, defense, and commercial operations, organizations need a consistent way to demonstrate that critical components and supporting documentation can be trusted,”

says Coner.

“WK99450 provides a practical framework for traceability, authentication, and verification throughout the supply chain, helping stakeholders make more informed procurement and compliance decisions.”

“The standard establishes a practical conformity assessment framework that helps organizations evaluate sourcing claims using consistent, auditable evidence while improving trust, transparency, and accountability across unmanned aerial systems and their supporting supply chains,”

says Jeff Weiss, committee chair.
