At the World Defense Show 2026 in Riyadh, Chinese company SKYFEND Technology showcased its latest counter-UAV innovations, highlighting capabilities designed to meet evolving threats from small unmanned aerial systems (UAS).
The exhibition focused on two key systems: the Skyfend Thunder interceptor drone and the Skyfend Tracer Air II electronic reconnaissance system.
The Skyfend Thunder interceptor drone is built around an integrated artificial intelligence (AI) core that enables autonomous navigation and adaptive targeting. This AI enables the system to process data in real-time and engage small drone threats without constant operator input.
According to the manufacturer, the interceptor’s successful engagement probability is at least 90% against loitering targets moving at speeds up to 150 km/h. The Thunder has a tactical range of 5 km, a service ceiling of 3 km, and a maximum interception speed of 230 km/h. It weighs approximately 3.5 kg and can stay airborne for up to 7 minutes during interception missions.
Complementing the interceptor drone, the Skyfend Tracer Air II is an advanced electronic reconnaissance & detection system. Operating across a 0.4–6 GHz frequency range, it provides high-precision, three-dimensional direction finding and positioning of UAS control links in complex electromagnetic environments.
The system uses AI-based visual recognition to distinguish and locate control channels—including first-person view (FPV) links, jammers, radar, and communications nodes—making it suitable for real-time detection and tracking of multiple air threats. The Tracer Air II can simultaneously monitor at least six targets.
Mounted on an SOA200 UAV platform, the Tracer Air II extends detection range for DJI RC Pro controller signals to 3 km, and up to 10 km for higher-power FPV links under optimal conditions.
Deploying both platforms together, SKYFEND aims to offer an integrated solution for detection, tracking, and interception of small unmanned threats in contested airspace.
