Amazon Delivery Drone Crashes in North Texas

An Amazon Prime Air delivery drone crashed into the side of an apartment complex in a Dallas suburb last week.

The damaged drone fell onto a nearby sidewalk and began emitting smoke, though local firefighters later confirmed it never caught fire. The cause of the crash remains unknown. Amazon has launched an investigation and is coordinating repairs to the building. The drone struck the exterior of the complex on Routh Creek Parkway around 5 p.m.

FOX 4 viewer Cessy Johnson captured the aftermath on video, showing the drone smoking on a walkway near the building.

The drone involved was the MK30, Prime Air’s newest model. It crashed into an apartment building in Richardson, Texas, on Feb. 4.

Cesarina Johnson, who recorded the incident from her window, said the crash happened almost immediately after she began filming.

“I was initially just recording to get the Amazon drone on camera because it was the first time I’d seen one in person,” Johnson said. “I didn’t realize that was about to happen.”

Although the actual moment of impact was just outside her line of sight, debris—and eventually the drone itself—fell to the ground just outside her window.

“The propellers were still spinning, and you could smell that it was starting to burn,” Johnson told FOX 4 News. “You can see a few sparks in one of my videos. Luckily, nothing caught fire. It could have escalated really quickly.”

Richardson firefighters responded to the scene but confirmed the drone never ignited. No one was injured.
