AAR Corp. a provider of aircraft parts and maintenance, announced that it has won a strategic five-year contract for providing lightweight, multi-purpose shelters (LMS). The value of the contract will be up to $14 million.

Pentagon Wants to Divert $920M to UAS & ISR Programmes
The Pentagon has asked the U.S. Congress for the OK to shift more than $920 million for numerous intelligence efforts, including many military UAS programmes, according to Defense Department budget documents.

China may have used an unmanned aircraft called the Silver Eagle in a recent naval exercise over the South China Sea. According to a website sponsored by the People’s Liberation Army, tp.chinmil.com.cn, the twin-tailed design performed a simulated combat mission following its launch from the bed of a truck.
US Geological Survey Office uses UAS to Survey Pygmy Rabbits
The U.S. Geological Survey has announced details of one of the first projects using UAS to survey wildlife. It is partnering with the University of Idaho to use UAS technology to gather data on the landscape habitat of pygmy rabbits.

The Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule, Zürich (Swiss Federal Institute for Technology, Zurich) is organizing a conference with the focus on Unmanned Aerial Vehicles in Geomatics (UAV-g) on September 14-16, 2011 at ETH Zurich, Campus Science City (Hoenggerberg), Switzerland. There will be two days of conference and one day of flight demonstrations.
