UK Civil Aviation Authority Approves Segregated Airspace for UAS Test Centre in Wales
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) announced on Wednesday its endorsement of the Airspace Change Proposal (ACP) which will create a unique environment within the UK for Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) to fly in segregated airspace. The revised airspace will become effective from 28 July 2011.

Yesterday saw the biggest turnout so far, with a sprinkling of uniforms adding colour and authenticity to the proceedings. The parallel sessions ad richness & variety but mean that inevitably a choice has to be made, which in my case meant focussing on Operational Experience (Military & Non-Military) and UAS Updates.

Pentagon Cuts Global Hawk Programme Again
Pentagon acquisition chief Ashton Carter has sliced 11 Block 30 Global Hawks from the planned buy of 42, further reducing the total number of the aircraft in the project only months after the U.S. Air Force cut 11 from the Block 40 programme.
UAS 2011 Conference – “A Historic Moment”
The first session of the conference was dedicated to International Regulatory Activities, with presentations from ICAO, JARUS, Eurocontrol, European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), the Civil Aviation Authority, UK, and Federal Aviation Administration USA. To the surprise of some and to the delight of many, they all sounded as if they were either saying the same thing in slightly different words, or at very least had been carefully orchestrated to dovetail into on another.
CIA to Operate Armed UAS Over Yemen
The CIA is expected to begin operating armed unmanned aircraft over Yemen, expanding the hunt for al-Qaeda operatives in a country where counter-terrorism efforts have been disrupted by political chaos, U.S. officials said.
