Airspace Approval for Delivery Drones in China

Chinese logistics giant SF Express obtained the country’s first airspace approval for logistics drones.

The Paper revealed that SF Express gained approval from China’s Eastern Theatre Command on June 21. The airspace covers five towns of the Nankang District in the Ganzhou City of Jiangxi Province, East China.

Delivery drones face hurdles in China such as airspace restrictions and the need to avoid collisions with birds and other obstacles.

SF Express also released several new types of drones which can deliver packages weighing up to 25 kilograms and have a range of 100 kilometres.

The company also signed a cooperation agreement with the local government related to the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) logistics industry.

In 2015, SF Express has started to use drones for delivering packages to remote and mountainous areas in south China
