The US Department of Defense (DoD) is to soon publish a new unmanned systems roadmap meant to guide industry for future investments and technology development.

The roadmap, to be approved by the Pentagon’s acquisition office and the Joint Chiefs of Staff, is slated to be published by the first quarter of fiscal year 2017 (FY 2017), Shad Reese, an unmanned systems co-ordinator for the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense, said during 27 October remarks at an Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) Unmanned Systems Defense event.

He said the document will underscore “who’s doing what and why” and show industry what the Pentagon wants so companies can, if they choose, adjust their internal research and development (R&D) activities.
