PowerUp 3.0 – Electric Paper Airplane – Kickstarter Campaign Launched

Kickstarter main image 1000x750In February we wrote about a neat little device that turns a paper aeroplane into a real model plane controlled by an iPhone app. Since then, the manufacturers, PowerUp Toys have been working really hard to improve PowerUp 3.0 significantly – with increased flight range, flight time. They also made it more affordable and now all components are super durable and crash-proof.

BluetoothSmart (also called Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy) now gives PowerUp 3.0 a range of up to 180 feet / 55 meters. It also gives much longer battery life, and has automatic pairing. PowerUp 3.0 is entirely app-controlled. Tilting the phone controls the high-precision rudder allowing the plane to go left or right. Sliding the thrust lever on the touch screen forward will increase propeller speed and will allow the airplane to gain and maintain altitude.

The module is powered by a Lithium Polymer battery. It weighs less than 0.1 oz / 3 grams, and  provides the PowerUp 3.0 over 10 minutes of continuous flight.

Yesterday the company launched its Kickstarter Campaign with a goal of $50,000 to fund   production – see the campaign here.
