No More Waypoints: AEVO GmbH Demonstrates Fully-Autonomous Guidance for UAS

The Guidance part in “GN&C” typically relies on sequences of pre-defined waypoints. But now the German company AEVO GmbH has demonstrated a new guidance and control software that autonomously guides UAS to perform complex tasks (e.g. target surveillance, obstacle avoidance). The company develops software for real-time guidance of highly autonomous vehicles. The in-house-developed algorithms are deterministic, globaly optimal and complete – they generate complete trajectories in real-time with the corresponding control.

This video demonstrates fully autonomous target surveillance (6D). An unmanned fixed-wing aircraft equipped with a fixed sensor (sensor footprint is shown in white) is tasked with the imaging of a moving target (red cube).

When the target is stationary, the UAS circles it and climbs to increase its footprint; when the target moves, the UAS autonomously adapts its trajectory and guidance in real-time to keep the target within its sensor footprint.
