Seattle Police Prepare to Deploy UAS

Seattle police say they won’t deploy unmanned aircraft until appropriate policies are approved.

Police said Monday they are still in the evaluation and training stage of using unmanned aircraft. They say they have discussed the new technology with the American Civil Liberties Union.

ACLU spokesman Doug Honig told The Seattle Times the mayor and city council should decide what kind of information can be collected by unmanned aircrafts and how it can be used.

KOMO-TV reported Seattle police have purchased two helicopter-style drones. They could be used in search and rescue operations, natural disasters and crime scene investigations.
